Stepmania is cross-platform rhythm game engine originally developed as a clone to Konami's DanceDanceRevolution in 2001.

Stepmania Online (SMO) was an online multiplayer service that let users play Stepmania across the interwebs. After its original shutdown Houkouonchi and myself rebuilt SMO and ran it for a number of years. After Houkouonchi passed away in 2015 I continued to maintain the project before finally shutting it down in 2018.

Stepmania Online was one of the main sources for simfiles at the time and I did not want to take that away from the community. I ended up building a parser (poorly) and scanned all 4000+ packs we hosted along with a website to search and download simfiles. This was suppose to be a temporary site until I could build something better. Fast forward 10 years and the original SMO Search is still extremely popular and desperately needed a reboot! So here we are.

The files hosted here are meant to be used by a rhythm game client.

While Stepmania is no longer actively developed, a fork of the game Project Outfox is being heavily worked on to bring this old game into the modern era. OutFox is the spiritial successor to Stepmania and is the recommended client to use for beginners or people looking to use dance pads / controllers.

It is recommended to use the latest version from thier OutFox Discord as the game is in a rapid develpment phase.

For high level keyboard play there is another fork of Stepmania called Etterna. The etterna folks have done a great job helping organize and maintain simfiles packs over the years

Historically Stepmania simfiles have been released as "packs" and after 20+ years, we shall continue that tradition. Zenius-I-Vanisher offers downloading individual songs, but they typically cator towards DDR style simfiles.
